A number of Detroit chefs we work with love using our microgreens, herbs and edible flowers to elevate the flavor profile and look of their dishes. Last night, we went out for sushi at Ronin Sushi in Downtown Royal Oak and their team coursed out a phenomenal meal for us. Ronin has been one of our customers for nearly 5 years and it’s always an exciting experience to see how they utilize the greens we grow for them! Each month in our newsletter, we will be featuring a local restaurant that uses our produce. We hope you’ll be encouraged and enticed to try some of these spots for a night out. 😋
During last night’s dinner, I started off with our servers recommendation of their spicy jalapeño margarita, which coincidentally matched my pistachio-green dress :). If you like a spicy cocktail, I highly recommend it. Food-wise, we started off with their featured roll for the month of August—a roll filled with avocado, pickled onion, roasted jalapeño, Thai basil, toasted coconut, topped with with coconut curry shrimp, and garnished with our opal basil. The roll was on-point and the shrimp was perfectly spiced. The seared salmon sashimi was seared in a sweet & spicy sauce with shishito peppers, the fish was impossibly tender, the flavors well-balanced, and the dish was garnished with our bright purple alyssum flowers.
One of Annie’s favorite rolls was the vegan crunchy shinto roll, which was impressive to say the least. I rarely order a vegan roll because I love a more traditional sushi roll with raw fish, but this one was more than satiating and was filled with lettuce, carrot, crunchy tempura bits, garlic mayo, wrapped in soy paper, and topped with avocado. If you have the chance to visit Ronin this month, we can’t recommend their featured roll of the month enough, and it was nice to see their accommodations for vegan and vegetarian eaters. The vibe of their establishment is perfect for a special occasion dinner or date-night. We hope you’ll try them out if you haven’t already!
