Currently we are harvesting a variety of yummy summer vegetables! In our greenhouse we have heirloom tomatoes grown with seeds from one of our favorite family-owned companies, Tomatofest. Ping tung Taiwanese eggplant and Hyacinth Beans, from Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company, rainbow carrots, pickling cucumbers, Poona Keera Indian cucumbers from Seed Savers Exchange, as well as lots of herbs, and edible flowers. In our nursery we are also growing lots of microgreens, pea shoots and sunflower shoots.
Stir-Fry and Bread Subscription Kick-off!
This is the first week of our two new weekly summer subscriptions: Featherstone’s Stir Fry Kit and Well Worth the Weight’s Breads & Spreads Kit.
Kit Pickup + Delivery Reminder:
Kit DELIVERY is on Tuesdays between 4–7:30pm. All subscribers will receive an insulated Featherstone Grocery Bag this week. Please put your grocery bag on your doorstep each week so we can leave your kit goodies for you. If you have an extra ice pack, we suggest putting that in the bag too! In an effort to cut down on our single-use bags, we are working on transitioning to as many reusable materials as possible.
Kit PICKUP is on Wednesdays from 2–6pm at Featherstone’s weekly Farm Stand at 4178 Lakepointe Street.
Our Kit Subscription Signup is Still Open!
If you would like to sign up for the remaining 5-weeks of our homemade Breads and Spreads or Stir Fry Kit, we will continue offering member signups on a rolling basis throughout the duration of our subscription timeline. Visit our website to sign up!
Each Tuesday we will be sharing the assembly instructions for Stir Fry Kit subscribers in our weekly Garden Happenings newsletter. To recreate the bolognese sauce at home, we also have the step-by-step recipe posted to our blog. Find the recipe here!
Cook your pasta (2 cups). In a large pot bring water (about 4 quarts) and about 1½ tsp of salt to a boil. When boiling add your pasta and cook 8-10 minutes. To drain your pasta: either remove the farfalle with a slotted spoon to save the extra pasta water (you may need to thin out the bolognese sauce with a few tablespoons or up to 1/4 cup of the pasta water), OR set aside 1/4 cup of the pasta water before draining.
In a large pan, heat up 1 tablespoon of olive oil and sauté vegetables until browned, add bolognese sauce to pan and warm through.
Add cooked pasta to pan, and pasta water to thin sauce—enough water to thoroughly coat the pasta.
Plate and finish with toasted bread crumbs and fresh basil.
Enjoy!!

We are also excited to announce that starting next week, we will be sharing videos featuring our new farmhand / in-house culinary educator Jessi Patuano. Jessi has been a leader in the Detroit food scene for the past 10+ years. She recently launched her own business Well Worth the Weight; our partner for the weekly Breads and Spreads Subscription we are offering throughout this summer.
Featherstone Garden is proud to be a part of the Taste the Local Difference local food network. Their mission, ‘to educate consumers about the value of local food, and support food and farming entrepreneurs in building successful, well-connected, and thoughtful businesses,’ coincides with our own values, and we’re excited to be in collaboration with them. You can find copies of their local food guide available at our weekly farm stand, as well as info for many other local farmers markets and restaurants.
